Tanzania’s Human Rights Crisis: Demand Accountability Now!

Tanzania’s Democracy in Jeopardy: A Call to Action!

President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s regime has embarked on a disturbing path, silencing voices of dissent and threatening the very foundation of democracy. The Tanzanian authorities are cracking down on government critics, journalists, civil society members, and human rights activists, creating an atmosphere of fear and repression. But here’s where it gets controversial—even opposition leaders are being targeted, raising concerns about the country’s political future.

The crisis escalated during the 2025 general elections. President Hassan’s re-election campaign saw the disqualification of key opposition candidates, sparking protests across Tanzania. The authorities responded with shocking brutality, using lethal force and internet blackouts to suppress the people’s voices. And this is the part most people miss: the government’s actions extended beyond the election day, with reports of unlawful killings, enforced disappearances, and detentions.

These human rights violations demand immediate attention. Without accountability, Tanzania’s government can continue to act with impunity. The African Union and the Africa Commission (AUC) Chairperson H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf must step in and lead the charge for justice.

The choice is clear: either we stand with the people of Tanzania, demanding their rights and freedoms, or we allow this repression to continue unchecked.

You can make a difference by signing the petition and urging the AUC Chairperson to initiate independent investigations into the Tanzanian government’s actions. It’s time to bring justice and restore hope, ensuring that Tanzania’s democracy thrives. Will you answer the call?
